Ulster Unionist Party
The UUP remain true to their founding principles - commitment to the Union and British citizenship. The UK is a multi-cultural entity and as such British citizenship safeguards the civil liberties of all its peoples. The UUP is opposed to any form of nationalism which it views as exclusive and confrontational. The effects of nationalism are still evident in parts of Europe today. It remains a threat to the peaceful co-existence of the people of NI.
The aims of the Ulster Unionist Party are:
1. To maintain Northern Ireland under the Crown as an integral part of the United Kingdom and to uphold democratic institutions of government in Northern Ireland.
2. To safeguard the British citizenship of the people of Northern Ireland.
3. To uphold the right of the people of Northern Ireland to self-determination based upon the democratic requirement for the consent of the majority of the people of Northern Ireland to any constitutional change.
4. To promote a democratic system of Local Government in Northern Ireland.
